New to the team?
Running for Innocence supports the work of the New England Innocence Project (NEIP) by raising money to pay for the experts and investigators needed to help bring innocence claims to light.
The Running for Innocence team is made up of runners of all ages and abilities who believe in NEIP’s mission that no one should go to prison — or be in prison — for a crime they did not commit. The team was inspired by a Massachusetts exoneree, Victor Rosario, who became a marathon runner during his 32 year ordeal in prison for a crime he did not commit.
In 2014, when Victor was first released, he and one of his lawyers, Lisa Kavanaugh, helped form the Running for Innocence team to help the many other innocent men and women still behind bars to hire the investigators and experts needed to achieve their freedom. In the four years since its creation, the team has grown to include more than 50 runners who have participated in nearly a dozen running events of varying distances. Together, team members have raised funds to support more than ten innocence cases now under investigation by NEIP and its partners.
This will be the team’s fourth year participating in the Genesis Battlegreen Run, and we hope to make it our most successful year yet. We have set our sights high, hoping to raise $10,000 by November 4. The money raised in this campaign will ensure that the many men and women whose wrongful convictions NEIP is working to overturn have a fighting chance to achieve justice and freedom.
Our team welcomes runners (and fundraisers) of all ability. While we do not want fundraising to be a bar to joining our team, we do encourage runners to aim to raise a minimum of $500, so that we can reach our team goal of $10,000!
